The 1991 NA models weren’t that sophisticated.

Also, I’ve been able to write my own firmware mods and contributed to the Megasquirt world such that idle and AC stuff is included in the ECU so that I’ve got better than OEM idle and management.

In about 6 days, Optus in Australia are releasing the Dream and I’m guessing it will have a local (non-TMobile) RC33 image… hoping someone will post that up and we can all migrate to that build ;-)

Seriously – I think apps will have a big influence to the whole story. People (including me) may bag how apple tightly controls the apps on the store but at the end of the day my iPhone has way more apps than I could ever get for any previous phone and I I really cant think of an app that I need that isnt there.

Some of the ones I use _every_ day include Evernote (my second brain) and Stanza (ebook reader). These and the built in Exchange activesync make the iPhone WAY more than just a phone and something I honestly would have trouble replacing.
